About Sue Gonsalves

I am a BIPOC Psychotherapist with nearly 20 years experience working with individuals and couples in corporate and government settings.  As a first-generation South Asian immigrant, I understand the unique challenges one can face as they try to adjust and thrive in a new country. As a child growing up within my family in Canada, I saw the difference in values and lifestyles, and struggled to find the right balance between being a “good Indian girl” and fitting in with my peers. As a therapist, I hope to create a safe and culturally-sensitive environment for healing and growth.

I graduated from Concordia University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and completed a Master’s degree in Psychology, with a specialization in Child and Development Studies, from Laurentian University.  I have also completed various certificates in different treatment approaches such as Marriage & Family Therapy (University of Guelph), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused & Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

I believe in continuously learning, and am committed to dedicating time every year to my professional development.  I continue to learn about the latest approaches and interventions, in the ever-growing field of mental health.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Psychotherapists, as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals.  I have experience working with individuals and couples who are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship stress, separation and divorce, parenting issues, infertility, and work stress.
